Volunteer with HLFS
Could YOU make a difference to a family in need who have children under 5 living in Edinburgh?
We need volunteers who are able to see a family for 2 hours per week for a year. Providing much needed practical and emotional support with a focus on family time to learn and play. Full training and travel expenses provided.
If you wish to have an informal chat about the volunteer opportunities available please contact 0131 661 0891.
Would you like to make a positive difference in the lives of young children and their families?
Would you like to meet new people and become part of a charitable community?
Are you interested in taking part in training to extend your skills?
There are two ways in which you could get involved:
Family Volunteer
You will visit a family for 2 hours per week. Every family is different, but the ways you might support them include:
- Being someone for parents to talk to and confide in.
- Providing practical support at home and in the community, such as helping with mealtimes or getting out and about.
- Helping parents find out about other local services.
Board Member
You will participate in regular board meetings and sub-committee meetings, lending your professional skills to the charity to help ensure its smooth running and to help optimise its impact.
Skills and experience in the following fields are desirable: early years, health, education, social work, finance, the voluntary sector, monitoring & evaluation and employment law.
Please contact us for more information.
Our volunteers say:
“Volunteering with HLFS increased my confidence and enhanced my communication skills. It has provided me with transferable skills and greater work experience. My co-ordinator was very fast at responding to my queries and had a person-centred approach. They were understanding and supportive“
“I told my friend that having someone who visits every week just for you really helps. Having that focus to get up makes such a difference as I didn’t have that before. I feel like my volunteer changed our lives for the better”
“It was a match made in heaven, she’s the highlight of my week “
“I have been a volunteer with Homelink Family support since 2018. I have supported various families over that time. Volunteering has been a very rewarding experience. I have supported families in their homes by chatting to the parents, playing with the children, reading stories, drawing with the children. We have also gone on walks, supported mum while out doing food shopping, gone to Bookbugs sessions and visited the library together. I have supported families on school trips. There are so many lovely ways to support a family as a volunteer.”
“Without her I would still be staying at my mums, she brought back my independence and confidence. She was a breath of fresh air!”
